Salman Khan-Shah Rukh Khan clash averted
Bollywood was abuzz with reports that films of the actors would release on the same date in Feb; analysts confirm that the clash will not happen.
It seems it was the clash that a lot of people in Bollywood had been looking forward to, but now it won’t happen. The film fraternity was abuzz with rumours that Shah Rukh Khan’s Billoo Barber and Salman Khan’s Main Aur Mrs Khanna would release together thereby clashing at the box office in the Valentines week. But we spoke to industry bigwigs and analysts only to find out that the big clash (we would love to see though) is not happening.
Informs Amod Mehra: “Shooting of both the films are still underway and so it’s improbable that they will release on the same day. There is still a lot of shooting left for Main Aur Mrs Khanna. So it would release sometime much later than February. So, the clash between the two Khans is not happening.”
Another trade analyst Taran Adarsh adds: “I know about this speculation in the industry but I don’t think they are releasing together as enough shooting is pending.”
Our industry insider threw some more light on the issue.
“At one point it was really looking probable that SRK and Salman’s films would open in the Valentines week but now it seems Billoo Barber will release much before Main Aur Mrs Khanna as Salman’s film has considerable shooting left and then post production will follow. It would have been a great clash because most probably no one would have pushed back their release dates for sure given their current stand-off,” says the source.
While Priyadarshan directed Billoo Barber that stars Irfan Khan and Lara Dutta in the lead, will see King Khan do an extended cameo, Main Aur Mrs Khanna (reportedly the name of the film has changed to Mr and Mrs Khanna) will see Salman play the lead role. The film also has Kareena Kapoor and Sohail Khan in it.

Music and politics should remain separate: Sachin
With tensions between India and Pakistan rising over the Mumbai terror attacks, Hindi film music director Sachin Gupta feels that music should not become a victim of hostility between the neighbours and should be kept away from politics.
The music director, who has worked with famous Pakistani singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam, said, "Music has nothing to do with politics. All I have to say is music and politics should remain separate."
Sounding quite contrary to singer Abhijeet, who had once said that all Pakistani artists should be banned here, Gupta said, "Music cannot be branded Indian and Pakistani."
Gupta has scored the music for the film Dil Kabbadi, a romantic comedy starring Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen, Rahul Bose and Soha Ali Khan. The film, which has eight songs, was released on December 5.
Reacting to the observation that the music in Dil Kabaddi has a Pakistani feel, he said, "Such observations come from people who are ignorant of music. The so-called Pakistani sound in Atif Aslam's songs are created by me. I gave the music for his hit Doorie. But just because the singer is from Pakistan people say it sounds Pakistani."
Sachin, who has worked on many albums with artistes like Alisha Chinai and Apache Indian, said working on Dil Kabaddi was a great experience. "Dil Kabbadi is one of the best things that has happened in my life. It's a good break. I was making the track Ehsaan for my band when the producer of the film Shailesh heard it and said the song fits in well with a situation in the film. That's how it all got started." Gupta has also sung the track in the film.

Subdued Eid celebrations in Bollywood
Id-ul-Zuha (Bakri Eid) celebrations were a low-key affair in Bollywood with biggies like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan preferring to stay away from festivities.
Many actors including Aamir, Zayed, Farhan Akhtar, Sajid Khan, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar wore black bands to protest against the terror attack on Mumbai.
Salman immersed himself in shooting for 'Veer', a film he has scripted, at Film City and exchanged Eid greetings with the cast and crew of the film.
His family is known to celebrate all festivals with family and friends in a big way but they have refrained from doing so this time.
Shah Rukh and Aamir are preparing for the release of their eagerly-awaited films 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' and 'Ghajini' respectively, but are not promoting them in a very lavish manner.
Aamir wore a black band to protest against the "life of terror which people have been forced to lead", while greeting people on the occasion.
Saif Ali Khan is out of the country shooting for his upcoming film and Katrina Kaif is away from Mumbai shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi's 'Aajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani' with Ranbir Kapoor.
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah wondered why Muslims felt obliged to take up token gestures to distance themselves from the 26/11 terror attack.
"Why are Indian Muslims perpetually required to prove their patriotism?," he asked.
Actor Irrfan Khan said the need of the hour was to prevent misuse of religion in the name of terror. He felt the need for all Muslims to come together to fight terrorism.
Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar said Indians must fight for their own safety.
Shabana Azmi was of the view that the Mumbai attack had brought the nation closer.
Actress Dia Mirza said that sporting black bands would give out signals against polarisation while Sajid Khan said people could not be terrorised in the name of God.

I'm dying to be swallowed by Mallika: Irrfan
Versatile actor Irrfan Khan has a lead role in the first Hindi film being directed by a Hollywood director. Mallika Sherawat plays a man-eating creature in Jennifer Lynch's "Hisss" and the actor says he would love to be devoured by her.
"She plays a man-eating creature. She swallows men in the film. And I'm just dying to be swallowed by her. Watching her devour men is a very, very sensuous process. Unfortunately, I don't get eaten by her. I'm the investigative officer trying to find out who's devouring all these human beings," Irrfan said
Irrfan says the special effects in the movie are awesome.
"I'm working in 'Hisss' with two very different and interesting kinds of women, Mallika and Jennifer. 'Hisss' would've been like any other snake-woman story. But the way Jennifer has treated the story has taken the film to another level. The special effects will shock our audiences. I think Jennifer's film inspired Ramu (Ram Gopal Varma) to make 'Agyaat'. High time we got special effects guys from abroad to do the needful," he said.
The actor has been travelling a lot lately - first he was in Philadelphia shooting for Kabir Khan's "New York" and then in Cape Town for Sanjay Gupta's "Acid Factory".
"I love the US. And I loved working with Kabir Khan. He's a very chilled out guy. I felt as relaxed as I do while working in a Mira Nair film abroad."
Irrfan's just released "Dil Kabbadi" offers him a change of image.
"I'm not going to pretend. 'Dil Kabaddi' is a film strictly for adults. And we shouldn't shy away from saying this. It's about dishonesty in man-woman relationships. I call it dishonesty by the standards set by civil society.
"Sometimes you are not satisfied in one relationship and keep looking for sexual and emotional satisfaction elsewhere. I like playing this promiscuous character. I play a man who's very transparent about his sexual desires. Good change of pace for me," Irrfan said.

Bollywood "shocked" and "scared" over terror strike
The Indian film industry Thursday expressed a deep shock over the nightmare that unfolded on Wednesday night as terrorists targeted various importantlocations in the Bollywood capital of Mumbai.
The industry people also appealed for sanity and called for unity after one of the biggest terrorist strikes rattled the country's financial and dream city.
"Terrible! terrible situation!," a shaken Amitabh Bachchan wrote in his blog. "Mumbai under terrorist attack!! Several locations bombed and terrorist firing all over the city. Major hotels under siege. Taj hotel battle going on inside the hotel," says Bachachan, whose post reads like a doomsday account.
"I am scared! shocked! I don't have words to describe my feelings. It seems unreal to me almost like a film. I don't know who are they and why they have resorted to suchruthlessness," film director Anurag Kashyap, who is in Goa said.
"They just enter the city like that and hold it hostage. It is unbelievable. Obviously Mumbai will bounce back but it has been hurt badly and it will take time to heal,"says Kashyap, who has directed films like 'Black Friday' based on the 1993 terror strike and the ensuing riots.
Lyricist Javed Akhtar appealed for unity,"I am completely shocked and surprised. It is an unprecedented attack that the country has ever witnessed. It has turned out to be one of the most horrific attacks. "...but there is no time to blame any system or anyorganisation. It is time to stand unitedly behind our security forces and flush out these culprits," Akhtar added.
Similar sentiments were echoed by national award winning director Rahul Dholakia, "It is insane! We need to sit down as a society and understand how to prevent this."
The director of 'Parzania' also appealed for everyone to stick together in time of such crisis.
"Politicians should put aside their differences and agendas and think about India for a change. It is the time to show our grit and character ...to stand together and be one,"Dholakia added.
"I have no words. How do you describe something like that. India is such a huge country, obviously some people like to shift the blame to the security but so many of them have already been killed.
"There is no end to such things unless we find the root cause of the problem," said actor Irrfan Khan of 'Mumbai Meri Jaan', a film based on the blasts in Mumbai local trains.
The shooting of various films and serials have been cancelled as life stood still in the city. Ajay Devgan and wife Kajol were to shoot for their animation film 'Toonpur Ka Superhero' in suburban Chembur today but the programme has been called off, Devgan's spokesman said.
Shooting of several television serials have also been put on hold in view of the grim situation prevailing in the megapolis in view of the attacks that have left at least 100dead till now, industry sources said.
With a holiday declared in Mumbai Thursday, heads of television channels have asked employees to stay indoors.
"Television shootings are going slow. Many of them are not happening today," they added.
