'Knighthood' for Shah Rukh Khan
Bollywood heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan said he would star in a new movie that would help spread the message that Islam does not support terrorism as he was knighted in the Malaysian state yesterday.Governor Mohamad Khalil Yaacob conferred on him the honorary title, "datuk", equivalent to British knighthood. Khan was dressed in a black and gold Malay outfit and headgear.
The title has stirred controversy as Malaysians say it was wrong to honour a foreigner when there were many deserving local artists.
But authorities said Khan was knighted because six of his movies were shot in the state and helped boost its tourism.
